Whitney Young, DVM, DACVO
Founder & Veterinary Ophthalmologist
Whitney Young, DVM, DACVO, is a board-certified diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO). She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Auburn University in Alabama. She subsequently completed a one-year rotating internship in veterinary medicine and surgery at the University of Pennsylvania’s Ryan Veterinary Hospital.
Dr. Young further advanced her academic and research expertise through a post-doctoral fellowship in a neuroretina research laboratory at the University of Missouri, where she facilitated collaborative projects between the university’s medical and veterinary schools. She then pursued a one-year specialty internship in comparative ophthalmology at Mississippi State University before undertaking a rigorous three-year residency in comparative ophthalmology at North Carolina State University.
Through her comprehensive training, Dr. Young developed specialized skills in the medical and surgical management of ocular diseases across a diverse range of species, including companion animals, equine patients, livestock, as well as zoo and exotic animals. As a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist, she is dedicated to delivering exceptional, individualized care to each patient she treats.
Outside of her clinical work, Dr. Young enjoys spending time with her family and her three beloved dogs – a Cane Corso and two miniature longhaired Dachshunds, one of whom is both blind and deaf. She has a passion for adventure and exploration, and enjoys live music, gardening, outdoor activities such as kayaking, and hiking around the Asheville area, as well as discovering new destinations around the world.
